American Hospital Dubai Introduces Cutting-Edge Radiation Technology to the GCC
The American Hospital Dubai, renowned for its expertise in Robotics Surgery, has unveiled a strategic collaboration at Arab Health 2023 with Emitac Healthcare Solutions (EHS) and Varian, a Siemens Healthineers subsidiary. This collaboration will see the installation of Varian’s groundbreaking Halcyon® system, a linear accelerator designed for radiation therapy, making it the first of its kind in the GCC.
In a groundbreaking move, the American Hospital Dubai has become the first private healthcare facility in the UAE to introduce this advanced technology to the region. The agreement was officially sealed during the ongoing Arab Health 2023 event by Sherif Beshara, CEO of the American Hospital, and Mohammed Kenanah from Emitac Healthcare Solutions (EHS). Emitac Group is a prominent UAE conglomerate with diversified interests, including healthcare solutions, finance, and IT, and a strategic partnership with Varian.
The Halcyon system is a revolutionary radiation therapy platform, known for its human-centered design, which empowers healthcare providers to deliver precise, image-guided treatments. This system incorporates integrated imaging, user-friendliness, and swift treatment delivery, streamlining the entire cancer treatment process.
The Halcyon system at the American Hospital Dubai will feature Varian’s IDENTIFY™ system, equipped with surface guided radiation therapy (SGRT) capabilities. This innovative addition is poised to enhance radiation precision by enabling therapists to monitor patient movements during treatment, ensuring sub-millimeter dose accuracy on-site. This, in turn, promises faster, more efficient, and more accurate radiation sessions, ultimately improving the overall patient treatment experience.
The American Hospital Dubai’s Center of Complex Cancer Care has garnered regional acclaim for its expertise in oncological treatments. Established in 2005, the center offers an integrated and multidisciplinary cancer care program led by highly qualified American Board-Certified physicians with extensive experience in complex surgeries and radiation oncology.
CEO of the American Hospital Dubai, Sherif Beshara, expressed, “Our collaboration with EHS and Varian to introduce the Halcyon system marks another milestone in our commitment to providing the most advanced cancer therapies to our patients. The American Hospital Dubai has consistently been at the forefront of healthcare advancements, striving to bring the best and latest treatments to the region. Mohammed Kenanah, CEO of Emitac Healthcare Solutions (EHS), welcomed the agreement, stating, “Our strategic partnership with Varian empowers us to bring cutting-edge clinical innovations and cancer radiotherapy solutions to the UAE and the region. The collaboration with the American Hospital Dubai to install the Varian Halcyon at their facility positions us ahead of the curve. As the first Halcyon linear accelerator in the GCC region, this installation will enable AHD to cater to a greater number of oncology patients with unparalleled precision. Together, EHS and AHD will continue to envision a world without the fear of cancer.”
Laurent Amiel, President, Radiation Oncology Solutions Europe Middle East Africa (EMEA) at Varian, added, “We are proud to partner with the American Hospital Dubai in making this advanced cancer treatment technology accessible to patients across the region.
